Some Copies dont have enough notation in the staves.

I actually talked to a representative from the publisher to attempt to get several errors corrected, and it turns out that they didn't figure out the issue until September and those books are still in circulation. At least 10 pages out of that book have errors.

About the Author

Joan Littlefield Cook is a Professor of Psychology and current chairperson of the Psychology Department at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. As an undergraduate she majored in Psychology at Tennessee Technological University. She earned a Master’s and Ph.D. in Psychology and Human Development at Vanderbilt University. Joan has taught courses for more than 20 years related to child and adolescent development, educational psychology, and cognitive psychology. Students have always appreciated her knowledge of the field and her ability to present information in a way that is useful, motivating, and friendly. The Student Association at the University of Wisconsin-Madison voted her as one of their most outstanding professors, and the UW-Whitewater Psychology Student Organization presented her with their Excellence in Teaching Award. Joan's research is on mathematical problem solving and cognitive development, and she is currently involved in projects to support and assess critical thinking in college students.

 

Greg Cook is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Greg majored in Psychology at the University of Dayton and later received his Ph.D. in Psychology at Vanderbilt University. Greg has worked in higher education for more than 25 years. He’s taught courses in child development, research methods, statistics, and related topics at Whitewater as well as at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Vanderbilt University. At Whitewater Greg received a department award and also a College of Letters and Sciences award for excellence in teaching. Students consistently comment on his ability to present difficult information in a clear and understandable way. Greg’s research on cognitive development has been published in scholarly journals such as Child Development, Developmental Psychology, and the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology. He also collaborated with colleagues in the College of Education on studies published in the Journal of Experimental Education, the Journal of Research & Development in Education, and the Journal of Reading Education. Currently, Greg is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UW-Whitewater.

About the Author

Albert Valdman earned a B.A. in Romance languages at the University of Pennsylvnia and a   Ph.D. in French linguistics from Cornell University. He started his career at the Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. Department of State and at the Pennsylvania State University before joining Indiana University, where  he is Rudy Professor of French/Italian and Linguistics emeritus, director of the Creole Institute and editor of Studies in Second Language Acquisition. At Indiana University, he directed the program of elementary and intermediate French, including the mentoring of graduate student instructors and coordinators. A constant in his career has been his interest in developing more effective approaches to the teaching of foreign languages, the training of teachers, and the preparation of pedagogical materials. Valdman held the posts of president of the AATF and of the International Association of Applied Linguistics. For his commitment to the teaching of French language and culture and his pioneering work in the description of French in the United States, he was named Commandeur dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques of France, member of l’Ordre des Francophones d’Amérique of the government of Quebec province, and awarded the Médaille d’Or du  mérite francophone by Renaissance française.  His work in Haitian Studies and creole linguistics was recognized by Life Time Achievement Awards from the Haitian Studies Association and the Society for Pidgin and Creole Linguistics.

 

Cathy Pons completed a B.A. in French at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she spent a year in France as a Fulbright Teaching Assistant. Pons completed her doctorate in French linguistics at Indiana University where, as an Assistant Professor, she directed the elementary French program and the MA in French instruction. Teaching at the University of North Carolina at Asheville since 1995, Pons is Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages. In addition to teaching courses in French language, culture, and linguistics, Pons teaches K-12 methods courses for licensure candidates in Chinese, French, German, Latin, and Spanish. She is past president of the Foreign Language Association of North Carolina and has received numerous grants in support of study abroad programs for students and faculty. With more than thirty years’ experience in elementary French teaching and teacher preparation, Pons finds the classroom to be a stimulating environment.

 

Mary Ellen Scullen  completed her B.A. in French at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, she went to Tours, France to be a French government sponsored teaching assistant for one year. Three years later, Scullen returned to the U.S. with a Licence de Lettres modernes, mention Français Langue Étrangère and a Maîtrise de Français Langue Étrangère from Université François Rabelais in Tours. Scullen earned a joint Ph.D. in French Linguistics and Theoretical Linguistics from Indiana University in 1993. Scullen has taught French language, culture, and linguistics, coordinated the basic French language program, and supervised teaching assistants at the University of Louisville and, since 1998, at the University of Maryland, College Park. She also had the opportunity to teach French in southern Africa at the University of Malawi from 1995—1997 and to serve as the Resident Director for the Maryland-in-Nice program in Nice, France from 2002—2003. In 2005, she was named Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes académiques of France. For the past several years, Scullen has been involved in training new teaching assistants not only in French, but also in Spanish, German, Hebrew, Chinese, Russian, and Japanese. She finds working with new teaching assistants to be highly rewardingand she truly loves being in the classroom with first year students.

About the Author

Ashley Messenger is Associate General Counsel for NPR, specializing in First Amendment and media law issues.  She has previously served as Editorial Counsel to U.S. News & World Report, a Fellow at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, and a radio talk show host.  She has been practicing law for nearly 20 years, almost entirely in the field of media law.

 

She is an adjunct faculty member in the School of Communication at American University, where she has taught media law for graduate and undergraduate students since 2002.  She has also taught similar classes at George Washington University and George Mason University.  In the fall of 2013, she will be a visiting adjunct at the University of Michigan School of Law, teaching First Amendment law.

 

Professional honors and leadership roles include being a member of the Media Institute’s First Amendment Advisory Council; co-chair of the Media Law Resource Center’s Pre-Publication/Pre-Broadcast Review Committee; Vice Chair of the D.C. Bar Media Law Committee; and on the governing board of the ABA Forum on Communications Law.  She received a B.A. in philosophy from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a J.D. from Pepperdine University.

Don't Buy It If You Don't Have To

This book was required for my class, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The book itself is okay in terms of information, but it's riddled with typos, which I find unacceptable in any published book, but especially in college-level textbooks. Also, some of the legal terms aren't defined in the text, which was inconvenient because I often had to search for definitions in order to fully understand some concepts.

About the Author

Marilyn Stokstad, teacher, art historian, and museum curator, has been a leader in her field for decades and has served as president of the College Art Association and the International Center of Medieval Art. In 2002, she was awarded the lifetime achievement award from the National Women’s Caucus for Art. In 1997, she was awarded the Governor’s Arts Award as Kansas Art Educator of the Year and an honorary degree of doctor of humane letters by Carleton College. She is Judith Harris Murphy Distinguished Professor Emerita at the University of Kansas, Lawrence. She has also served in various leadership capacities at the University’s Spencer Museum of Art and is Consultative Curator of Medieval Art at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri

 

Michael W. Cothren is Scheuer Family Professor of Humanities and Chair of the Department of Art at Swarthmore College, where he has also served as Coordinator of Medieval Studies and Chair of the Humanities Division.  Since arriving at Swarthmore in 1978, he has taught specialized courses on Medieval, Roman, and Islamic art and architecture, as well as seminars on visual narrative and on theory and method, but he particularly enjoys teaching the survey to Swarthmore beginners.  His research and publications focus on French Gothic art and architecture, most recently in a book on the stained glass of Beauvais Cathedral entitled Picturing the Celestial City.  Michael is a consultative curator at the Glencairn Museum in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. He has served on the board of the International Center of Medieval Art and as President both of the American Committee of the International Corpus Vitrearum and of his local school board. When not teaching, writing, or pursuing art historical research, you can find him hiking in the red rocks around Sedona, Arizona.
